As I did not know the poor lad very well, I did not go to the funeral, BUT I am told it was heaving and there were so many people OUTSIDE as they could not get into the CREM! So At least he had a good but unfortunate send off!

The running total so far for the collection was £4600, and I beleiev that it is still growing, and when you consideer the other fundraisers it should be a nice amount of money in such a sad time!

The other morning onthe way to work I listen to the BBC World service before BBc radio 4 kicks in. It had an American who is there last survivor of WW1, and he signed up at 16, and drove ambulances!
Englands LAST Survivor transfered to the Royal Australian Navy, and lives somewhere in Australia!
So we have lost Henry Allingam aged 111, and now Harry Patch 108! so follow these links One and ALL Oznoids!

I taped several years ago the BBC series "The Last Tommy", Shot at Dawn, etc, and they make interesting viewing, and WE CAN ALL LEARN FROM THEM!

ON BBC radio 4 today onthe way home from work, they review 3 book, and today they had "ALl Qiet on the western Front". I've not read the book, but have watched the Black and White, and the colour (NOT COLOR) versions, and i prefered the Black and White one. The Bottom line is WHY?

I have two DVD collections
1. The Great War
2. The World at War, and they are unbiased, as they feature folk from both sides give their side of events.
I taped a series called "Shot at Dawn" which opened my eyes, and another one was
"The Last Tommy", and one of the survivors, met up with a soldier on the other side, they shook hands, had a laugh, a joke had a drink, and basically said "WHY"!

All death is a shame, and we should respect others grief!
The last Charity Junket that I did, (organise/run) part of the proceeds was sent to "The Gurkah Welfare Trust", and when I get sorted out, they will have a regular donation from me! As a country we let any Tom Dick or even Harry into our small Island. But until recently the Glorious British Government refused entry to retired Gurkahs! It took a campaign led by Johanna Lumley (Purdy from the Avengers, Absolutely fabulous, daughter of a Gurkah officer), to sway our lovely Goverment! We just need to get rid of the wasters who come here. Sorry for this rant. Asylum to be granted IF it is truely Due!
Britains Last Surviving WW1 Serviceman Transfred from the Royal Navy, to the Royal Australian Navy, and lives down under! Long may he live!

just wondering andy what would your three be in a foxhole,,,,i always would put a ghurka in first,,,the reason is when your sleeping he's awake sneaking across the lines and silently sorting the enemy out,,and i think one ghurka got the ,i think victorian cross for single handedly taking out a tank with his injanuety,,,,,thus saving many allied lives

Officially, we Brits were not there, so a labour government actually did something right (sorry I slipped there, will try not to let it slip again), However, I would imagine a some of our lot were in with your lot!
And at the end of the day, what did it achieve? NOTHING Constructive!
Why do they not listen to:
Evil World
War Pigs, etal
If they did, they may get the picture, BUt YES Defend your lands by all means

Henry Allingham has now passed away after just over 113 years on this planet. He saw the battle of Jutland from the air, and then the killing field of the Somme! He only started talking about his part well late in life, and his best one liner about war was "It is not worth it!" At last years Cenotaph He instisted putting his qwreath down, even though it looked so painfull from his wheel chair" - RIP

Good topic like ever gimp!!!!!! hey warriors you'rent alone i'm with you
I was looking for another post concerning a more deep and meaningful version of this. BUT here we go.
The other Thursday a fellow worker was late in, and we ripped the proverbial out of him. Until he told us WHY. He told us about a visit to what I think, was his sisters house by a MIlitary Car. So you can guess what is coming next. My colleauge, found out at midnight, the tragic news! He had lost his nephew out of there! We knew the name of one of the fallen before the names were released! Naturally, we respected him and his sad news.
Most of us saw him stood at the side of the road on the news in Wooton Bassett as the cortage drove past.
He has the funeral to come, so I now know of someone who WAS at the sharp end. So the way I am feeling, I had better sign off this post! Our thoughts etc, go out to him, his family, and the families of ALL the others!
RIP ALL of THEM!
