Ye Olde Veg Plot

As you know I have a little green fingers.

The runner Beans are coming on, and the Sun Flowers at each end of the run are nice and sturdy now!

I got to dig up the onions and potatoes, then weed the plot

The gooseberries are coming to an end, so I feel a pie coming on! On home leave next week(?) so I might just bake a pie!

Marrows/cucumbers are slow to grow in the greenhouses, and the tomatoes are not much better

WE NEED SOME prolonged SUN

Ah the salad tray (gutering) has been a little dispointing! The herbs basically failed. Possible over watering with NO sun!. Anyway, the coriander is sprouting well, and the Little Gem Lettuce is coming along. The Spring (Salad) onions are really slow to show!

the trench, is slowly draining so I will have to dig the center out, and apply compost! Then, I can plant out the beetroot, Sprouts, and Leeks!

Risposte

if the subsoil is wet then it might if you get no hot days mate,,our subsoil is dry as hell,,lucky we got constant river water

Transplanted some Sprouts and Beetroot today, and my second flush of Tomatoes. this batch will be fed and well and truely watered! I hope that the weather holds for over a month or two!

While recupperating yesterday, I went Foraging!

I came back with Rose hips, and Sloes. That has meant that I have had to process some 3 years old Sloe Gin into 9 bottles, and prep the next batch. It greieved me to compost 4 lbs of old friut, but I had reclaimed the previous lot! BUT, I have 26 days of antibiotics to go to get over my slight bout of pnemonia. Then I might just party! horay for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The I had to put the hips into a sauce pan cover with water and boiled away on a very low heat for many hours. Then I poured the c***ents into a fine meshed sive over a funnel (tun dish) so that the contents went into an old Jam Jar! How's that for recycling.

In Ireland the lady of the house has just learnt how to pickle, and started with red cabbage! She rough shred it, sprinkled with salt for 12 - 24 hours, wash it off, place in jar and top up with malt vinegar! Do not pickle smallonions, as Shallots are a lot sweeter.

I might just try and pickle some grlic, as THAT is extremely Moorish

Adjustment to sprinkler in small green house working a treat, and the Runner beans keep on coming!

--
Number 1

The timer has worked in my absence, and ther Runner Beans are coming along quite well!

transplanted my first batch of tomatos in a carton, and the next carton will be next week, I hope, and that way, we should have two crops of tomatoes!

--
Number 1

Got the sprinkler working AT LAST! I only have to go and feed the plants from time to time! Mind you I have a Syphon attachment for a plastic drum! SO may be next year now!

I have decided to re-plumb the small green house sprinkler, so that it is a center fed one, and the big one, put a loop in!

Could be that this is why the salad tray/guttering is lack luster! I had to put in some drainage holes

The Cucumbers are coming along extrememly well, and the few marrow plants that I have are so so
The Tomatoes, are a let down, so I have invested on 2 starter packs. They have 15 seed approx in the sachet, and are sealed in a foil packet along with some compost!. So I cut the top off, emptied the compost bag and sowed the seeds! after a week, the first set are sprouting, so the second batch that i started this week should be up next week! I just hope that we have some warm weather so that i do not waste my money!

I have to prune the apple tree soon so that it is a lot lower next year!

So there is a lot of weeding to do! any volunteers? OK, I thought not!

It turns out that I may have not fertilized the Tomatoes as they are leggy and bearing little fruit! Mind you I have just bought some more Tomato seeds, so I will try and take two!

The Cucumbers have sprouted, even though I have lost a few Cucumber and Marrow plants!

We shall see

http://www.metalofoz.com/

It has taken the best part of the day to pressure wash the path at the side of the house, and lay some slabs so my dear olde dad can get up the 8" step.

Got some post mix and found it had gravelin! so I laid a base, and went out for sand and cement, so I laid 2 off 2'x2' as the first course, then a 3'x2 slab, which almost killed me due to the wieght, then a 2'x2' as the top course, and made it look nice.

Had lunch

and laid some more slabs in the back garden to allow the third water but to sit on top next week!

Cut 3 lawns, water green houses

have tea, start drinkingt beer, and type on the site!

the be in bed for 2100, as I have to be up at 0415 to go to work for 0600, for 10 hours, 1 hour drive home, have my tea, anwater garden/green houses, and type on the site, and so the week is planned already!

http://www.metalofoz.com/

Last year the Tom's were great! this year a little poor! I found out last night on gardeners world, that comercial compost only lasts until the plants flower, and THEN you have to start feeding them!

Looking at Gardeners World last night might indicate that i have BLIGHT! If that is so, then out the infected plants come, and into the council green bin!

--

what you can grow tomatoes over there,,,hmm in your shade house or

As i look down the garden I can see it winking at me! Yes it is ........ one of the two main sunflowers! One at each end of the runner bean frame. I am disapointed that any of the Sweet peas have not flowered as they should have done. They were put in to attract the bees so that they could polllenate the bean flowers!

there was a lot of talking about what they put into the weed now to make it heavier. Nice things like plum or sugar. the sugar will glue your lung and cause permanent damage. i stay away from the stuff now.

takes one joint to wreck your head and many joints to refix it mwa ha ha ha ha ha

Two was my limit, and 18 months lattr(?) I packed in smoking as I was fed up of coughing my guts up every night instead of sleeping, so my belly went even further south! hahahahaha

Anyway, the Apples on the tree are growing in size!

The Runner Beans will be cropped on Sunday for our first cropping.

There are a few ripening Tomatoes, but I am disapointed with overall growth!

Will pick the last (second crop) of Gooseberries on Sunday. I feel a pie coming on, so I will have to find the recipie book. So will it be a flan, or a Crumble with custrad?

--
Number 1

Thats what I thought when I first tried but my friends told me that I started telling funny storys. And I remember driving home with my bike and I never went any faster then that night (at least I thought so) ha ha

When I was 16/17 I tried a bit of roasting, as my collegemate gave me and it had no effect, so I thought why waste money. Mind you I was given it!

--
Number 1

Hey Andy maybe your fellow-countryman wouldnt have fallen in that hole if he would have smoked a bit of basil before or some other herbs out of your garden, roasted eventually ha ha ha
