as said in other threads, i love Black Rain. it's an awesome and mature sounding album.

but in keeping with the statements below, my guy mentioned to me how he dislikes some of the album, particularly Trap Door. why, i say to myself...and here's what i think. sadly, he's a severe alcoholic who toys with recovery, but hasn't quite clicked with it yet. he can be very self-absorbed, not worried about anything or anyone but numero uno, as addicts tend to be. if he were to read the albums lyrics, maybe he'd realize why some of the album, but particularly Trap Door grates against him. heh heh. it's a spectacular song.

i think for him and many, everything surrounds the ultimate high, the ultimate experience (our culture has really pushed that for years). we are a shallow, self-absorbed generation living for drama, theatre, intensity. so hearing about environmental concerns, amends to others, and addiction (you know, heavy or serious stuff) might not be high on the list of things to hear. because when the candle burns swiftly - intense with a bright flame, some like that best. and so they like songs that speak to that mentality. yawn.

as for me? i'd rather ozzy continue expressing himself musically without the self-destruction and self-absorption of addiction run wild. that's been a big turn-off for me. bring on self-awareness. songs that speak to the serious issues of our life. so many bands start out doing that but then with fame become vanilla. blah.

i love the sounds i hear on Black Rain. especially in the latter part of the album.

============================

TRAP DOOR

Can you see your reflection
False strength, hollow protection
Run from pain and rejection
The truth stabs again

Till the skin is broken
And the cut is open
And the words once spoken
Just fade away

Too late, standing on the trap door (x4)

Big head leads to confusion
Strong heart pumps up delusion
Tough talk, one voice communion
Medicate the pain

Justify your ego
Living with denial
And the thoughts so vile
Won't fade away

Too late, standing on the trap door (x4)

It's coming
You're falling
You're on your own with no one left to blame

Can't sleep? 'cause you've made your own bed
The sentence of the helpless
Sink deep to the trial in your head
The court of the selfish
Why? Tell me why? Can't evade or escape the reality

A true lie and a broken promise
A Judas and a doubting Thomas
A tragedy just to keep you honest
Guilty always fall

Through the trap door
Fear the trap door
Through the trap door
The trap door, the trap door

No fear, too scared to look up
Can't win, nothing but bad luck
Clock ticks, your time to face up
You can't run for long

When your world is broken
Your trap door is open
The very words you choke on
Just fade away

Too late, standing on the trap door (x4)

I can't seem to see you baby ... although my eyes are open wide ... but I know I'll see you once more ... when I see you, I'll see you on the other side
