yes triple m i remember the eighties and wat ur sayin happenend then, the metal scene got ripped apart by people who used genre's and sub genre's to make little circles and bag the other genre's out ,,it dont matter to me if you like hair metal ,death metal ,,viking metal ,or any metal ,,my heart is metal and ozzy is the life blood ,,all we should do is stick togethor,,even here there is a rift that has been in for heaps ,and im not going to try to fix it any more ,,anyway i do agree with you MMM ,even with wat you were saying b4 ,its all good you know rock or hard rock or heavy metal,,some would say heavy metal is a by two subgenre of rock or a by 3 subgenre of rock n roll ,,well alls i know is that my metal collection has no boundaries to genre's ,,I LOVE IT ALL

Thank you....since the limits between metal and rock are not so clearly defined (that's a good thing) you can't get all the people to agree if a band is metal or not...this were my opinions...for me Sabbath first played metal but it doesn't matter who started it what matters is that it exists! Us metalheads should be finding reasons to be united instead of finding reasons to hate each other. All people in metal are a family

oh and i agree with your last paragraph ,, sabbath are extroadanary and ozzy is # 1 in my book

well triple M ,,im impressed ,,nice work mate ,,but really the term heavy metal came from a steppin wolf song ,,please correct me if im wrong..heavy metal thunder,,,this song was born to be wild --released 1968,,
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild
,,ok we could debate this fact all day long but sabbath never called themselves metal in the ozzy years and ozzy today still says rock and roll ,,should we beleive ozzy or the fans ,,my thoughts of sabbath that they were the first doom metal ,,or proto doom as being the first doomy sound,,and i would debate the fact about judas priest being non or metal in the seventies,,it is a fact that rob halford wore all the leathers and studs first ,,the head banger uniform of the eighties, but he wore it in the seventies ,so were do we stand ,,and diamiond head would of started in the late sevcenties,,you dont just rock up to a recording studio and say im here to do a album ,,many months or a few years of bashing away at it ,,and motorhead i class as blues metal ,,see M3 every metal band you can choose there is a genre and or sub genre for them and really ive been thru this before with someone else here about said genre's,,i will find the thread if i can remember and point you in that direction,,cheers mate for some excellent thread and post work ,,IM LOVIN IT

Ok listen...As it is widely accepted today and as I've said Sabbath wrote the first metal song in 1970...now for the other bands that gimp mentions....Judas Priest were formed in 1973 and in the beginning they played hard rock....they started becoming metal after 1975 and became totally metal with 1980 classic album British Steel and they stayed metal ever since...Motorhead formed in 1975 and in the beginning they played classic rock n roll even some blues...after 1980 classic album Ace of Spades they became metal and in fact they were the ones to form speed metal which is a mix of punk rock and classic heavy metal...gimp I think Diamond Head released their first disc in 1980...so they weren't around in the 70's....If I'm wrong then it doesn't matter because they played music that was closer to hard rock than metal...the only pure metal song they have is "Am I evil?"....Budgie was a 100% percent rock....sometimes hard rock sometimes classic rock n roll....the same goes for ACDC...Kiss was poser rock/glam rock...Thin Lizzy were hard rock...in the early 1980's they had some metal songs...

Now Uriah Heep were the closest metal band to Sabbath...just after Sabbath started it in 1970, Uriah Heep immediately picked up with it and started making metal too somewhere around 1972....but their songs were too simple and too light when compared to Sabbath's heavy, complicated stuff...So they were always in the shadow of Sabbath....

So in the seventies, especially in the early seventies, only Sabbath was 100% metal....they started it and they evolved it....they took it to a peak and quite frankly there has never been a better metal band ever since...

<strong> But, But I thought they said there was no metal in the '70s! </strong>

† Coolstreaky †

<strong>Well there was no metal band apart from Sabbath in the '70s, so I think it would be appropriate to let us include underground, as metal grew from this genre of music... </strong>

† Coolstreaky †

But he is saying metalwise

<strong>'BEST BAND TO COME OUT OF THE 70'S AND 80'S (METAL-WISE)'- Can we include underground rock please? </strong>
--
† Coolstreaky †

Led Zeppelin was way too rock and bluesy to be called metal....Deep Purple also were hard rock...not metal.....The Only metal band back then was the band that invented metal that is Black Sabbath....because the song Black Sabbath was dark kinda doom fast in the end heavy and the lyrics and atmosphere "evil"....that's what you need to make metal....Sabbath continued in that climate all along their carreer...the others from that time were too light to be taken as metal

--
King Ozzy

<strong>Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are bluesey but are classed as metal...
Deep Purple are underground I suppose... </strong>
--
† Coolstreaky †

deep purple were for me more bluesy than metal,, and yes judas fukin roks

<strong> But Deep Purple are kind of metal... </strong>
--
† Coolstreaky †

<strong> Weren't Deep Purple around in the '70s? </strong>
--
† Coolstreaky †

In the 70's Sabbath was really the only metal band out there because they invented it in 1970 and it took a while for the rest of the bands to catch up.....Since you exclude Sabbath I would have to say Judas Priest although they weren't metal at the time but they were the closest band to metal back then....Priest became metal after 1980 with British Steel....From the 80's most people would say Iron Maiden because it is the most known metal band and top selling....but their sound is too light to be called top 80's metal band when there is Motorhead around....heaviest of the heavy.....Ace of Spades,Orgamsatron,Killed by Death all that stuff.....Motorhead best metal band from the 80's....

I'm not hardcore lol

wat a question,,wow lets say any german hardcore death thrash metal,,hellhammer/celtic frost or sodom or kreator or possessed or protector and all of what 82 said

Why thank you dear kala. How could I forget Queensryche? And now that I've thought about it, I have to add Twisted Sister, and one of the class acts of all time Alice Cooper (even though he's really from the '60s). Thanks for the Maiden support Streaky.

UFO is the Brit-based band that Michael Schenker left Scorpions for in the early '70s. Current lineup includes original members Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond, and Pete Way, as well as "youngster" Jason Bonham on drums.

Lucifer's Friend, Metal Church, Angel Witch, Krokus, Vandenberg, Motorhead, White Zombie, Witchfinder General, (for gimp) Rose Tattoo, Alkatrazz, Riot, Montrose/Sammy Hagar
