For me I love the way Ozzy used to weave his melodies over Iommi's crunching riffs, and then working closely with Randy and them acually producing the riffs from the melodies. That one huge reason you can never compare Ozzy's solo work to his work in Sabbath is cause in Sabbath the guitar and bass parts were laid down whereas in his solo bands the melodies usually come first. In Sabbath Ozzy had to work around the music but solo the music was worked around his melodies. He might not be able to write lyrics but the man can come up with great melodies.
