You idea of Toad in the hole is like what we call Gypsy/Eggy Bread. Basically, you crack a few eggs and whisk. Put your dry bread coated in the egg mix in to frying pan of hot fat/oil (the choice is yours) and turn when you think it needs to be turned.

How about Cheese on toast, sometimes called Welsh Rabbit. Mix your tasty cheese with milk(?) and add corn flower little by little, to get a nice spreadable mixture, then grill to toast it! Add garlic, onion, chives, etc to suit your taste bubs. When cooked you can add tomato sauce (ketchup to the un initiated), brown suace, worcestershire sauce, chilli sauce, etc.

As a side order you could have stuffed mushrooms. As long as you can fill the hole left buy the stal, add a mix of anything that you like, and then grill.

I am salivating already at the thought.
