Bro I have seen the movie, of course I had to watch it, come on its Metallica, lol.

As for what I got from watching it, well I noticed several things, for one Lars and James obviously never recovered from losing Cliff, understandable when you realize he was so much more than just a bass player within the band, he was pretty much the band, Cliff wrote a large majority of the music, as well as arranged it, and it is painfully obvious in retrospect. And before you freak out on me putting Cliff on such a high pedestal, please remember that the band line up while they were in L.A consisted of James, Lars, Mustaine, and their then bass player McGovney. When Lars and James decided to do away with Mustaine replacing him with Kirk, and as well dismissing Mcgovney due to their belief he didn’t contribute enough within the band, they went to San Francisco in order to sway Cliff into joining the band, Burton declined initially of course, but later said he would join the band if Lars and them would make the move to San Francisco. So right there we have the fact that James and Lars wanted Cliff within the band so much so that they went out of their way, relocated in fact in order to play & make music with him, so that says a whole lot if you ask me. I also believe that Cliff, just as Iommi did within Sabbath played kind of the older brother, father role within the band. In other words Cliff called a majority of the creative shots, with Lars and James tagging along for the ride. Now I am not bagging on Lars and James, not at all, but as a fellow musician I understand that there are members within a band that kind of not so much contribute more, but they have a profound influence on the over all direction that the band may, or may not take. For example look at what Dime and his brother were doing with Pantera before Phil’s joining of the band, there is a huge difference between the two personas both known as Pantera, and it obviously had very little to do with Phil’s over all talent, but more so to do with his creative influence within the band.

So now we have James and Lars after the bus accident, and I am quoting Lars of his recollection of what James screamed that night after the accident. James was to have said, “What are we going to do know?” Now I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a guy who is a wee bit worried if you ask me, and why is he so worried, because his prized creative colleague in no longer there to show the creative way. Now with that said we move forward to the music that they generated post Burtons death, and there is an obvious difference when we go there, no substantial argument can be made that disproves the obvious situations that transpired with the lose of Cliff.

Another thing that I couldn’t help but notice is how Lars and James threw up a protective wall after Cliff’s death, noticeable by how they treated Jason within the band. Jason himself has stated many times that he never got that close to either of them, or at least not close enough for them to allow him to have any real creative input in the band, which ultimately brought about his leaving the band to pursue more fulfilling creative outlets.

Another fact is the decision to hire Bob Rock, after they in my opinion had successfully delivered us Justice for all. To this day I am confused as to why they went with a guy that had produced for bands such as Bon Jovi, Skid Row, and Motley Spew, where is there a collation between them and thrash metal is beyond f***in me bro, do you understand my surprise, my disgust with that call, if not bro, you really, really should get the top bodybuilding supplements.

So this is why I stated my beliefs on why St. Anger, hell almost anything post Burton has pretty much been a disappointment for me. If you cannot understand the position we original fans, followers of Metallica must be in, then I ask who can? I mean if you love real heavy music, if you love the whole creative integrity of it all, then you must be able to respect us old school fans for feeling they way we most obviously do.

Peace bro
